Commodore Hughes thanked all who participated in the Flotsam Sea and Flea Market, especially those instrumental in making it a huge success: Howard Crowell, Mary Lou Sternitzke, Mary-Brooke Barger, and Gloria Bentzen. She mentioned that the income closely matched last year, yet there is room for improvement. The Board will discuss possible future changes at its next meeting. Howard Crowell added that he will run an ad in the Journal for items that members may still wish to sell.
Newsletter Editor Norris Palmer asked for articles and recipes. The Seversons will be submitting an article for May’s “Working Jib”.

Once the supply is sold, no more will be ordered because she will be introducing new items. She reminded members that the club mugs, in two sizes and which may be personalized at no extra cost, are still available at $8 and $10.
Historian Gloria Bentzen said she was in contact with Doug Mattoon, a past commodore, who will be able to give Newsletter Editor Norris Palmer an interview featuring his unique perspective on the club’s early beginnings. She, with the help of her sister Gail, will be transferring much of our old memorabilia into acid-free albums. She asked the membership to send her pictures to add to the collection of ongoing documentation.
Commodore Hughes said she has met with representatives of the Yacht Club who request our participation in Opening Day ceremonies on May 2nd. She urged members to join the parade, the theme of which is Rock ‘N Roll. Also, this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Port of Friday Harbor.

He concluded by introducing member Fred Hoeppner, our speaker for the evening, who gave instruction on tying knots.
