MINUTES OF THE FRIDAY HARBOR SAILING CLUB GENERAL MEETING, 10-12-10
Site: American Legion Hall
Commodore Rebecca Hughes called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M. The winning raffle tickets were drawn and prizes of club wear were presented. Members ‘news consisted of Ron and Marie Di Cristina’s brief account of their trip to Atlanta and their announcement of their 27th wedding anniversary this month. Jan Champlin and her brother celebrate a shared birthday today. Pat Magaw provided an update on Dave Ross’s condition after having had a lung transplant.
Treasurer Karen Palmer reported that we are on budget and have $10,590 cash on hand.
Commodore Hughes announced the next Board meeting scheduled for October 25th and invited the members to attend.
Social Chair Brenda Pound circulated a signup sheet to enlist volunteers for the Round-the-County Race. Lloyd and Mary Bacon, who are coordinating the social event, need people to bake cookies and to supervise the dock. She reminded the membership that our holiday party is scheduled for December 7th at the golf course and will cost $30 a plate. Invitations will be sent next month. We will again conduct the book donation for local students in need. She introduced and thanked this evening’s kitchen crew, Don and Ann Jarrell and Mary Bacon.
Commodore Hughes commended Brenda Pound and Ken Krooswyk for a most successful Crab Feed. Vice-Commodore Ed Hale mentioned that we may look into holding next year’s Crab Feed at Blakely Island.
Co-Fleet Captain Dennis Pratt reported a successful year of racing events. He said that Terry Lush will provide “Hawk’s Moon” as the committee boat for the Round-the-County Race and that anyone interested in helping out should contact him.
Haberdasher Mary-Brooke Barger, who displayed available club wear and articles, asked Commodore Hughes and Pat Magaw to join her in modeling three new styles of women’s jackets, hoping to have the members select one to add to the inventory. The prices, styles, quality, appearance, etc. were discussed and the membership selected the one in the medium price range.
Vice-Commodore Hale presented the rationale for continuing our yearly monetary contribution to the Sailing Foundation. With a show of hands, the membership agreed that we should help fund the Foundation’s work with youth and they approved of the suggested $500 donation. Member Kathy Chadwick mentioned that she would like to see some feedback from the Foundation.
Vice Commodore Hale then asked for volunteers to fill positions for next year’s Board. Positions that need to be filled are Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, and Social Chair(s). We also need someone to chair the Flotsam Sea and Flea Market. Social Chair Brenda Pound voiced the need to break down and share the duties of the Social Chair with other members, so that the work load becomes less. Susan Eberhard suggested having two Social Chairs with the ability to delegate tasks and provide backup. Vice-Commodore Hale said he welcomes any suggestions the members may have.
Commodore Hughes concluded the meeting at 7:45 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Therese Pratt, Secretary
