MINUTES OF THE FRIDAY HARBOR SAILING CLUB GENERAL MEETING, 1-11-11
Site: Friday Harbor Grange Hall
Commodore Ed Hale opened the meeting at 7:02 P.M. by welcoming the attendees and wishing us all a “Happy New Year”. He mentioned that some of our upcoming events are already posted on the website calendar and others are yet to be determined. The Shaw Island Winter Classic is to be held on February 19th, and not February 12th. He thanked Gloria Bentzen for her display of the newly organized history pages. She received a round of applause from the membership. Gloria mentioned that the first book contains memorabilia from 1979 through 1993 and represents fifty hours of work by her and her sister from Victoria. She anticipates that the second book will be ready sometime next month. She suggested that we could consider signing them out to take home for individual perusal. Commodore Hale said he will bring them to the Board meeting and be the first to take them home.
Commodore Hale announced that he received an e-mail from the Port of Friday Harbor inviting us to their Board meeting on February 2nd at which they will be discussing fees.
Rear Commodore Ken Krooswyk circulated a sign-up sheet for those volunteering to captain certain cruises and to garner ideas for summer cruises. He is holding a meeting at his home on January 14th between 5:30 and 6:00 for those wishing to work on the cruises.
Treasurer Karen Palmer reported that our cash on hand totals nearly $8500, with $1300 still due from the Round the County Race. Membership renewals will be sent out shortly.
Social Chair Jan Champlin introduced the evening’s kitchen crew: Ken Krooswyk, Rebecca Hughes, Karen Palmer, and herself. They were given a round of applause. She reminded us to take our recycling home, as the Grange will not pay for it, and to replace our chairs at the end of the meeting.
Staff Commodore Rebecca Hughes asked that we help defray heavy medical costs resulting from the treatment and hospitalization of our dear departed member, Dave Ross. She requested donations to a memorial fund account established in his name at Islanders Bank.
Commodore Hale asked the members to state their news. Dennis Pratt is acting in the Playwrights’ Festival at the end of the month. Ted and Terri Kruth are selling their 31’ Erickson sailboat which will be featured at the Seattle Boat Show. They now have a new trawler moored at Snug Harbor. Bill VanSkyhawk is recovering from ankle surgery. Linda Lush celebrates her birthday this evening. Rebecca Hughes has a birthday this month and will be celebrating it in Cancun.
Vice-Commodore John Manning introduced Scott Boye, our speaker for the evening, who , with accompanying slides, spoke on his participation in the Van Isle 360’ race around Vancouver Island.
Commodore Hale adjourned the meeting at 7:20 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
